Land Rover Defender – Latest Threats to JLR
New method to gain access to Land Rover Defenders is now being used to target high end models.
Thieves now access the vehicle CAN bus network via the wing mirrors. Once connected, they can unlock the vehicle within seconds.
Thieves can then steal items inside the vehicle or strip the vehicle of expensive modules.
They can even code new keys and steal your Defender in a matter of a few minutes.
This method enables criminals to trigger the JLR emergency start function or even program a new key, all without ever needing the original keys. It’s a fast, discreet technique that is becoming increasingly common in targeted vehicle thefts.
Owners of newer Defenders should be aware that this attack does not rely on smashed windows or forced entry, meaning there may be very little visible damage left behind.
Once access is gained, criminals can move quickly, often taking valuables from inside the vehicle before attempting to remove sought-after electronic modules.
In more serious cases, the vehicle itself can be stolen after a new key is programmed.
